About the role

We are seeking a highly technical Automation Engineer to design, implement, and optimize automation systems. This position requires an engineer capable of designing complex plant-wide architectures from the ground up and independently steering high-impact technical choices.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on project delivery experience, a strong command of at least one major DCS/PLC platform, and the confidence to stand in front of clients as a subject-matter expert.

Key responsibilities

  • Architect and independently design complex automation architectures from the ground up.
  • Architect sophisticated PLC/DCS logic and custom control algorithms for highly complex processes.
  • Standardize HMI/SCADA design philosophies and user interface templates across multiple projects and platforms.
  • Design complex integration strategies for third-party systems, establishing robust OPC networks and virtualized architectures.
  • Analyze process performance data to proactively identify and resolve deep rooted control issues and optimize throughput.
  • Approve critical engineering documentation and ensure compliance across all P&IDs, loop diagrams, and network architectures.
  • Design and standardize validation strategies and review complex documentation for the team.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), resolving high level technical issues on the spot.
  • Serve as the primary SME during sales calls and drive the technical scoping for proposals.
  • Mentor and formally train junior engineers, reviewing their technical output for quality assurance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical field of study.
  • Exhibit deep mastery as the primary architect for at least one core platform and virtualization environment, with the proven ability to independently integrate and troubleshoot across the entire stack.
  • Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in at least one of the following platforms, and working familiarity with several others: DeltaV, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Ignition, PI, OPC Standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building custom desktop or web applications.
  • Knowledge of traditional programming languages such as C#, .NET, and the like.
  • Technical knowledge of AI, including practical experience integrating AI solutions into industrial products or engineering workflows.
  • Prior experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology sector, including familiarity with continuous manufacturing GMP environments, GAMP 5 guidelines, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
  • Candidates with deep mastery of PI (or other historians), and MES (Syncade, AspenTech, etc.) who want to expand into full control system execution are highly encouraged to apply.
